Baby name poll - vote now!

Vic, Nico and I are having trouble deciding on a name for our baby boy. We've narrowed it down to three possibilities: Enzo, Nolan and (LeBron) James!

We want the baby's name to complement Nico's name - Enzo is a possibility, as a nickname for Vincenzo or Vincent. We are also considering a name that matches Nico's cousins' names (Nathan and Noah) - Nolan would qualify. Nico has decided that if we are dead set against LeBron James, he will settle for James. Vic and I are leaning toward that as a middle name.

The baby's estimated due date is October 6, 2007, but we think he will arrive sooner. Please tell us what you think! Vote in our poll! If you have any other ideas or suggestions, please leave a comment.

Chris says that if you name him James, it'll be like you've named the baby after him!

Abra votes for Nelson (after our cat) or Joey. Thalia votes for Binky. Which is why it's not generally a good idea to ask 3-year-olds for input.

Name him "Bo".

Thanks for voting, guys! Lin, sorry, but you don't get ultimate voting power. Brenna, please tell Abra and Thalia that we appreciate their input! Chris, why would we name our child after Bo Jackson?!

I voted for Enzo, but our tour guides all say Nolan. And they're all cute college girls, so maybe you should go with what they say.

I'm surprised that my husband didn't suggest "Maurice...."

Mills and Jonah both voted for "Enzo." In fact, they consider the matter entirely settled and are now referring to Baby Enzo. Of the name choices, Mills adds, "I like them all." Me too!

Oh, the other name I had suggested before when you were looking for "N" names was "Nevio." (So it means "mole," but it sounds cool!)

I agree with Linda. I like Enzo. It is too confusing if you name him Vincent, but call him Enzo. Unless you do name hime Vincenzo.

Enzo James Thomas

Hmmm. You're asking for baby naming advice from a person who once had a cat named "Cat" (in my defense, why name them? They never come when they're called). So here goes...

* Nolan is a likely veto. I'm not a fan of the "all the kids' names start with the same letter" line of thinking.

* I personally prefer James more than Enzo.

* As an academic matter, I'd be really interested to see if you could have a little basketball superstar just by deciding ahead of time that you will name him "LeBron James Thomas". Does this concept extend to other Cleveland sports figures? If you decide to name him "Drew Gooden Thomas", will he be born with an inexplicable patch of hair on the back of his head? (I sure wouldn't want to decide on "Brady Quinn Thomas", only to have him stay in the womb an extra 11 days...)

* Remember, the real test is what the name will sound like when you yell it, along with the middle name. "ENZO JAMES THOMAS! YOU CLEAN UP YOUR ROOM RIGHT NOW!" If you can hear it rolling off your tongue, then you know you're where you want to be.

So my vote is for James. (But I'll always be left wondering why you didn't go with Grady Sizemore Thomas.)

Lisa, maybe Chris meant Bo Brady from Days of Our Lives. :-P

My vote is Enzo! Are you considering just Enzo or will it definitly be a nickname? If so, I like Vincenzo! Vincenzo James Thomas. Of course this is if you're not really game for LeBron b/c our street could absolutely use a LeBron Thomas! LBT.

Aunt Tracey says Nolan James Thomas is a solid strong name that flows well. It also rolls off your tongue when yelling to get his attention. She believes Enzo is a concern...kids shortening it to "Zo", which is a girls name; everyone spelling it with an "I"; and, if it is supposed to be short for Vicenzo or similar, be prepared for Vinny...remember, her job is too worry.

Nathan votes Nolan James Thomas.
Noah votes James Nolan Thomas.

Uncle Tim votes Nolan James Thomas, but I am partial to the the double syllable, beginning with "N" first name; and, since you already have Nico...well, seems like a slam dunk...just keeping the Lebron James thread alive! Ultimately, I must agree with my wife...Nolan James is a strong name that flows...but the smart money is on the name Lisa prefers!

Great comments, guys! Thanks for your input!

Well Enzo is a cool name - if yo like fast cars. Unfortunately the only Enzo I have met was a bit character challenged. You could always pull a fast one by using Giacomo with is the Italian version of James - but may well be shortened to Jack. I had an uncle Giacomo - he was a bit of a scoundrel you would have liked him!

okay when i say enzo is an awful name this is coming from a guy who wanted to name his twins Albert and Belle. So please dont go with B--ENZO.

Congratulations! Enzo has a certain mystique, but reminds me of the womans' show brand, which carries the same name. Give Nico the vote!

I favor Enzo. One of my great-grandfathers was named Vincenzo (I had an uncle and have a cousin named Vincent). Vincenzo changed his name to Jim after arriving in the United States - that's my reason for James as a middle name.
Feel free to consider the names of my other great-grandfathers: George, Michael, (but please don't use George and Michael together) and my personal favorite, Leonardo.

"V J Thomas" has a nice ring to it. (Versus "B J Thomas" who might then be plagued with a lifetime of dodging raindrops.)

I'm sure you've looked at the typical things parents consider ... such as, do the initials spell anything? or with what does the name rhyme (a favorite pastime of children)?
You may have noticed ...
E(nzo) J(ames) Thomas and http://www.ejthomashall.com/

I asked one of my sons his opinion and he chose Enzo for the following reason.

"Enzo sounds like En(d) Zo(ne)."

So if Enzo grows into a football star he has a nickname waiting.

Wishing you and the baby the best,
Chuck
